about

ALBINO 9 is the Original Electronic Music of musician Hal Berkstresser.

SOME HISTORY:
My ears and brain latched into Anthrax at 13 and I became obsessed with metal music. While bands like Pantera, Cannibal Corpse and Sepultura pushed me to take up guitar and to find heavier and more brutal music I started seeing great industrial bands like Skinny Puppy, Frontline Assembly and Ministry...my interest in electronics started.
I studied guitar at Berklee College of Music for two years before essentially getting so frustrated with the way I felt the school perceived metal I took the opportunity to focus on a major of Music Synthesis. I began fronting the band PIVOT in Boston, incorporating my rig of mics, kaoss pads, samplers, keyboards and mannequin parts adorned with piezo transducers. My love for the work of people like Manson, Henry Rollins and Mike Patton was very apparent at this time.
Years later, I would move to L.A. while working with a video game company and I had hopes of pushing metal music further. More years passed and after endless numbers of jams, bands and embarrassing paying gigs I found Devolved, an Austrailian-American Tech Metal band that hooked my ears right away - the perfect blend of death metal and technology for me at the time. I produced Devolved's 3rd studio album, "Oblivion" and got to add my contributions to this amazing band.
Shortly after "Oblivion's" release my interest in death metal started to fade and I craved a larger, more positive audience. I made an attempt with another band, lost quite of bit of money and came to the realization I could not let my musical world come to a halt every time personal matters within a band started to destroy the inner-workings (which started to feel inevitable).
Frustrated and unsure how to proceed, I was turned on to Deadmau5 on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast and bells went off in my head when I heard his music and saw where he was coming from. I was always aware of dance music in the periphery, but I was hearing diverse, creative and new things I felt only previously with metal and industrial music. Music with purpose and a vehicle for expression that encouraged collaborations and experimentation with technology - what else could I desire?
Since then I have refocused my obsessions back on my more technical knowledge of electronics so that I can achieve something purely organic - positivity. Enjoy - that's all I want.
